Tomato Bliss

At the lovely Bloomingdale Farmers Market in Washington, DC, the tomatoes on Sunday positively required tribute.

The pleasingly round, compact Green Zebras, the huge, red-splashed yellow Pineapple tomatoes, the Sun Gold and black cherry tomatoes got together with two tomato sisters that had traveled all the way from beautiful Wayne County, Kentucky—a smooth, mild yellow and a tart red. Ladies and gentlemen, we had ourselves a memorable, multi-state Tomato Feta Salad.

Tomatoes inspire such passion, it can be necessary to switch to Italian and to the vocabulary of music to express what's in one heart. Enjoy Ripe Tomato: A Symphony in Four Movements, complete with some flowery language and a dozen or so tomato-eating suggestions.
