Podcast 44: Rowena Mahloch Makes Realistic Sense of Real Food

Rowena Mahloch, host of the new website, blog and idea center Realistic FoodEs, brought her verve to our new WLXU (93.9) studio at Lexington Community Radio this week. The purpose of Realistic FoodEs is to promote a Real Food lifestyle. Rowena's mission is "to empower people to find their BEST selves through Real Food."

Rowena and her husband Tim have their own amazing life stories, including a food journey toward eating good food that began in 2011. Rowena says real foods are unprocessed or minimally processed—closest to their form in nature.  Recently Rowena and Tim completed a real food-based 21-day sugar detox, which Rowena describes during the show.

Rowena, who was born in the Philippines and grew up in Ohio, began her adult life as a software engineer and then became a lawyer, ultimately taking—and passing—the bar exam in four different states. Recently she has dedicated time and effort to significant social justice work in our community. Beneficiaries of her good work include CASA Lexington, Community Action Council, Bluegrass Rape Crisis Center and the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Human Rights Commission. We talk about that work on the show - listen and enjoy this wonderful person and her addition to our regional food system.

Co-hosts Ouita Michel, left, and Chris Michel, center cannot believe their good fortune when they see the Philippine-inflected food radio guest Rowena Mahloch has cooked and brought to the Lexington Community Radio Studios. Indescribably good, people! Get yourself a radio show and maybe you'll get this lucky!
