Brigitte Nguyen Prather brought her mother, Mai Tran, to the studio to talk about Vietnamese food, cooking, and having "good hands," possibly a genetic predisposition toward being good in the kitchen. Hear Mai Tran on her parents' restaurant in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, her escape from Vietnam in 1975, her devotion to brilliant cooking (including deboning and stuffing turkeys), splendid foods of the lunar new year, and her leadership of a Chevron's Culinary Club in San Francisco.
